"This wiki page is dedicated to Ray Liotta (1954-2022) whom we've lost two days ago at the time of this memorial being written down, if you don't recognize him in movies like Goodfellas; you'll know his voice as Tommy Vercetti in GTA: Vice City. Rest assured, he's ready to go to bed after one long day... but we'll never forget him."
What Ever Happened to SpongeBob? (AKA) WhoBob WhatPants is a mid ULTRA-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob leaves Bikini Bottom because everyone got angry and called him Idiot Boy. He then hits his head then forgets everything that happened to him.
AIR DATE FOR THIS EPISODE: OCTOBER 13, 2008
Why This Episode is An Idiot Boy[]
Let's get down to the trench with this one, SpongeBob gets memory loss. And him leaving the Bikini Bottom is a decent idea, if it didn't contain gratuitous scenes of cruelty. We begin with him breaking Gary's shell that has him escaping from his house, bumping into Patrick, who now has to bake a second cake for his mother's birthday. Rule of thumb: the first rule of baking a cake is that you always bake two for a backup, and calls him a idiot boy. Already, this is structured wrong: the best friend is supposed to be the back-breaker, not the start of it. Squidward's next and he gets incredibly mad at him just because he interrupted his beauty sleep for Pete's sake!
Third, Sandy just built her fan-fan robot (quick question: You ever watched Skunk Fu! before? They've got a episode based on that style titled: "The Art of the Fan") SpongeBob comes out from hiding behind the tree, but alright, let's stop there and take a good look about how this is doomed to go wrong. Take one look at the scene before you, and tell us what do you see. You found the problem yet? Now you know the one problem with this scenario: There's a HOLE on top of his water helmet!
This is what we call 'Forcing the Conflict' like in Stuck in the Wringer, because that hole on top of his helmet was put there for the sole purpose of short-circuiting Sandy's fan-fan robot, which is a total accident because he tripped on her log as, after 'Tea in the Treedome', the water helmets didn't have holes on top. Sandy is unjustified and unfair in yelling at SpongeBob for that accident and shoves him out and then calls him an idiot. That was just about uncalled for, just like with how they killed off Rhaegal from Game of Thrones unfairly, which too was unjustified and EXTREMELY stupid of them.
Mr. Krabs is the last and it shows that he's even more incompetent to work because the next thing we know, you don't get any indication about why he crashed into the pots and pans all of a sudden. Again, this is structured wrong! Patrick is supposed to be the breaking point, not the beginning of it; we have two things for this: the first is called 'cruelty', and the second is called 'character derailment'.
So after one last emotional kick to the crotch by a snarling Gary, who acts like he hates him (he'll end up regretting that later, as SpongeBob can't feed him if he's not here), he ends up with memory loss after leaving. Some time later, Sandy, who sounds like the only one whose remorseful for what she did to SpongeBob, but not Patrick (mainly because of his stupidity, because he did cry over losing SpongeBob) or Mr. Krabs, and find out from Gary that SpongeBob left. Later as it's revealed, the Bikini Bottomites are going into chaos and are destroying the city because SpongeBob isn't there making Krabby Patties. NO! You can't do that, writers! This not only proves that they treat SpongeBob like he's almighty, it also proves that everyone in Bikini Bottom treat Krabby Patties like their lives depend on them. Squidward also acts worse than he was in 'Artist Unknown', in that episode he let his pride get in his way and teach his only student about his lessons that eventually led to his mental rampage at the end, but here? He's made it clear he doesn't want him to return. This really shows that he hates SpongeBob THAT MUCH, which is something that the following episodes that were eventually made after this one will show again.
Furthermore, New Kelp City civilians should not be given Jersey like accents or attitudes. This prejudice against New Jersey ends now; enough is enough with portraying them like jerkoffs with viperous attitudes! The law of no blowing bubbles, all because it hurts the eyes of another, should not have been apart of this, once again, forced conflict. The Bubble Popping Boys act like they have pure, unopposed, dominance over the city people, which is the reason for the ridiculous law and as for that act of getting rid of them; he is given the position of mayor for his actions of getting rid of them.
It should be pointed out, most importantly, that in other episodes like House Sittin' for Sandy; the climax happens too late because of the loads of filler in that episode. Here? It happens TOO EARLY.
And in the middle of the episode, SpongeBob makes a very disturbing face when he asks someone "Is there something wrong with me?". Which has been given the nickname "Morbid SpongeBob" by many fans, and spawned SlendyBob.
This episode is a pretty terrible rehash of the widely beloved and overwhelmingly famous special, “Have You Seen This Snail?”, where a main character runs away due to the mistreatment of others, and thus having everybody have to go look for that character in question. But without the charm that episode had here, they made everyone, even Gary, of all people, mad at the poor frycook who was just having a bad day today.
This also became the basis for the Paw Patrol episode, "Pups Save a Friend", the plot synopsis being that Marshall runs away because as he thinks his clumsy ways are ruining the Paw Patrol team.
Lastly there's the jokes scattered across:
- Getting warm near the fire apparently means camping to wait in line for a new game that's in the arcades, even iCarly wasn't this line-crossing towards hobos considering how many jokes they made about them.
- They treat blowing a bubble like smoking, considering the fact that it's a theory.
- Subtlety implying cutting SpongeBob with a comb knife implies back alley torture, not worth the mention.
Overall, this is more of a bad fanfic by an author that can't write a proper story about one of the main characters who runs away and the other characters, or the main character in some fanfics, learn of a hidden prophecy that foretells the main character will return and begin his revenge. Is there any good parts about this? Well, the climax to be honest, because SpongeBob is back at the Krusty Krab and in turn, back in the Bikini Bottom where he belongs. We like to think that the jewel encrusted egg that Mr. Krabs used to bribe Squidward was actually fake, given how unlikeable he was today.
Also, the "idiot boy" insult wasn't mentioned once in the book based on this god awful episode; instead they just tell him to go away, way to attempt to shave down the derailment there, writers.
And while Sandy and Mr. Krabs apologize to SpongeBob in the end, the latter was a bit sheepish about it, while Squidward and Patrick don't apologize at all. Though in the latter's case, it was mostly because, once again, his stupidity.
Overall, it's a bad version of "Escape from Cluster Prime" from My Life as a Teenage Robot.

Good Things that should happen to Spongebob[]
- SpongeBob vs. the Bubble Poppin' Gang is a very action-packed scene, even if it did take place too early.
- Although it didn't make sense why SpongeBob would be crowned mayor just for defeating a gang, it was pretty heartwarming and it's a welcome breath of fresh air after all the torture SpongeBob went through, and it would be nice to have SpongeBob becoming a mayor as a plot for a different episode.
- SpongeBob was the only character that's likable.
- The late Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti from GTA: Vice City) did a good job at voicing the leader of the Bubble Poppin' Boys
- Sandy, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs feel guilty about how they treated SpongeBob and head out in search of him.
- The moment where Mr. Krabs gets a really arrogant and selfish Squidward to cooperate in the search for SpongeBob was really awesome. Even if it meant bribing him with a decorative egg as a "retirement gift".
- Unlike Little Yellow Book, Squidward himself gets his comeuppance in the end.
- Sandy and Mr. Krabs are the only ones who apologize to SpongeBob in the end, though in the latter's case, he was sheepish about it.
- The title of the promotion was a funny giveaway to SpongeBob's amnesia.
- Cheesehead.
- The ending is actually pretty funny.
- Depending on your opinion, SpongeBob losing his memory can be a pretty interesting idea for an episode.
- After being jerky to SpongeBob, Gary instantly regretted it after eating one year's supply of snail food that SpongeBob gave him.
- Without this episode, we couldn't have a potential creepypasta.
- The WhoBob WhatPants intro is a funny parody of the normal intro.
- At least Mr. Krabs didn't pretend to fire SpongeBob.
How to make good things happen to SpongeBob[]
- Though SpongeBob did something wrong to his friends, he could've apologized to his friends and his friends would've accepted his apology.
- Have the ones that got angry at SpongeBob get all angry about their misfortunes, though they are not a big deal, like interrupting Squidward's beauty sleep and for Mr. Krabs, getting some of his money deep fried, though it's just a few dollars, to tell him to make sure that'll wont happen again in a much nicer way.
- Instead of his friends calling him "Idiot Boy", they could've told him not to do it again in a nice manner.
- Instead of the townspeople (the ones in New Kelp City, not the Bikini Bottom) to not run away at the sight of bubbles because of the looming danger that the Bubble Poppin' Boys pose. And when bubbles become a huge problem, SpongeBob shouldn't take the blame for bad misfortunes and the responsibility has to be given to the townsfolk.
- Have the climax with the Bubble Poppin' Boys take place NEAR the end, not in the middle so it doesn't come off as too early like in the final version.
Reception[]
This episode was not well received by fans, who consider this episode one of the worst episodes of the series, along with other infamous episodes like One Coarse Meal, A Pal for Gary, SpongeBob You're Fired, The Splinter, Pet Sitter Pat, Little Yellow Book, Truth or Square, Demolition Doofus, Ink Lemonade, Fungus Among Us, Choir Boys, Stuck in the Wringer, Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom, To Love a Patty, Yours, Mine and Mine, Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy, Good Neighbors, Big Sister Sam, Boating Buddies, The Clash of Triton, Face Freeze!, and The Fish Bowl, as well has being the worst and weakest episode of the good seasons.
PIEGUYRULZ did call this episode a ScumBob Episode, but like Restraining SpongeBob, Big Sister Sam, and Pest of the West, he thought this episode was close to Meh, and he even thought this episode was better than Pest of the West.

Trivia[]
- This used to be Intrancity's least favorite cartoon episode, until it was replaced with 'Cheese a Go-Go' from Foster's Home from Imaginary Friends, and then currently 'Study Muffin' from The Loud House.
- His least favorite SpongeBob episode then changed to 'Sharks vs. Pods', then 'The Paper', and currently 'Krusty Love'.
- The SpongeBob intro for this episode says "WhoBob WhatPants", though years after the episode first aired, the intro of this episode was replaced with the generic main theme song internationally.
- As mentioned above, there's an error in the episode that was put there for the purpose of forcing the conflict:
- That hole on the top of SpongeBob's water helmet, inside the treedome, should not be there.
