"Whale of a Birthday" is a semi-infamous episode from SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, Mr. Krabs sends SpongeBob to get a birthday present for Pearl.

Why This Birthday Isn't Worth Going To[]

Mr. Krabs, why do you have children in the first place if you're so cheap? Keep in mind this is the Post-Movie era and this episode proves that he cannot sacrifice even a single shed of his cheapness to make it a "Whale of a Birthday" for Pearl as mentioned in the title. It's also the time when Mr. Krabs starts acting like a jerk which is what he is currently.

It makes you feel horrible for the torment she has received for her childhood birthdays. Having to share one balloon and building an unstable pony ride is NOT what you would call enjoyable. There is at least one thing that makes her birthday different from the others: She finally got what she wanted unlike that manatee from A Day Without Tears, as mentioned by the News Anchorman.

Oh and by the way: Who in the hell would make a cake from cardboard? That should be for the birthday of someone you don't even like, not for your own daughter whose word you've given that you would make it the best after years of cheapness. Stale popcorn is understandable due to the very strict time limit they had, a statue made from Krabby Patty meat is just bad, dishwater tasting punch is disgusting, having a banner that says: "It's a Boy" although it's crossed out and replaced with "Girl" is even worse because it's misleading. But a cake made of cardboard? We know making a cake takes time and effort, but don't fake it by adding frosting on top of it.

In the end though, consider that Pearl got what she requested and that was a booked performance from Boys Who Cry; plus Squidward put on a decent performance of "4 Ply" so there's that.

Redeeming Qualities[]

Mr. Krabs does get his comeuppance for being greedy, by having SpongeBob show him the really long receipt from his shopping spree for Pearl's birthday.

Speaking of SpongeBob, he’s at least likeable in the episode for trying to get a present for Pearl, this episode also one of the moments where he’s in character.

Boys Who Cry became a meme.
