Trenchbillies is a mid ULTRA-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick are held prisoners by a backward gang.
Why This Episode Should Be Called Trenchbullies[]
It's another example of why Legends of Bikini Bottom was a bad rating trap. To begin with, the design of the trenchbillies themselves are really hideous, feeling they're like some of the worst-looking characters in an animated show. Secondly, the part where SpongeBob and Patrick land on each others face and their teeth come out is disgusting and painful. Thirdly, the plot itself rip offs two pre-movie episodes, "Rock Bottom" and "Plankton's Army," because it's another story about SpongeBob and Patrick winding up lost in a city deep at the bottom of the seabed, and it's a lot of redneck stereotypes. Considering that the trenchbillies are in an isolated place, it would not be out of the realm to assume that they're committing...something impure not to be named. Children may not understand the meaning, but it's still a stereotype. The Trenchbillies design is too creepy for kids and the Ma Angler design is creepier than the other Trenchbillies combined. Lastly, the ending where Mr. Krabs ends up being forced to marry Ma Angler is really stupid and not needed (Ms. Puff would like to have a word with Ma Angler). Also, this could be a stereotype of people who live in rural southern places .
Good Qualities[]
- The trenchbillies are somewhat funny depending on your view.
- Cletus is very funny in one scene.
- The dueling banjo showdown was the highlight of the episode.
- Despite what's mentioned in BQ#5, at least there's no evidence or insinuation by any of the characters.
- SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs are all likeable in this episode and this is one of the few times in seasons 6b & 7 SpongeBob has his original personality, one of the few times in seasons 6-8 Patrick and Squidward have their original personalities, and one of the few times in seasons 6-10 Mr. Krabs has his original personality.
- Mr. Krabs being forced to marry Ma Angler can be seen as non-consensual despite for many of his evil deeds. and this
