To Love a Patty is a HYPER-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob falls in love with a Krabby Patty.

AIR DATE FOR THIS EPISODE: JULY 26, 2007

Why I'm Not Falling In Love With This Patty[]

There's a name for this kind of obsession clouding the cubic creeper's judgement over all together, it's called addiction. Beehhhugh... this ScumBob's just creepy altogether!

We the audience like to think this is a side-effect from the Krabby Patty fumes that are poisoning him for the fact that he was so in love with a soyback yigger patty, he would kill a flock of clams that were about to eat Patty. Considering he and Patrick took care of a clam in Rock-a-Bye Bivalve, it's rather jarring to see. It should be brought up that there was once a theory that Junior from “Rock-a-Bye Bivalve” was one of the victims of SpongeBob's low sanity. Thankfully, the theory is false due to him appearing in the ending picture of SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout. But still, good lord, these are actual animals, not the Uruk-Hai from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The song is so awful in so many ways! Even the song from Best Day Ever was better than the one here, but it’s not the worst song in Season 5, that is only because there's worse out there in a later episode, which is a ratings trap. FROM THE SAME SEASON!

After going over the waterfall, Patty begins to smell horrible, rotting quickly, and when they go on the date to the Krusty Krab, only then does he realize Patty decayed into a rancid burger. There's only one thing that's left to do, and he would rather eat it than throw it out. We bet your captain's quarters that throwing it away would've killed him with a broken heart, and it most likely would've resulted in Mr. Krabs not wanting to toss out a Krabby Patty and sell like in "Born Again Krabs" which is what sent him into the hospital in the first place. By the way, Mr. Krabs' story says it all when regarding when he was in SpongeBob's position:

"There was a time when I was in love too. She was a Krabby Patty that looked a lot like yours does. She was a firm, juicy, warm patty. And attractive- oh, she looked good enough to eat. What I'm saying is, Krabby Patties are meant to be loved and eaten. That's what they're put in the ocean for. And it looks like yours is way past due".

You know, it's amazing Plankton wasn't involved in this episode, because the cubic creeper fell in love with a sandwich that comes from a restaurant, which we the audience came to realize something about the Krusty Krab: eating there comes with a price, whether it be disasters, or some unexpected catastrophic event no one could've predicted would happen.

It's a shame really, to think he was not there where he'd have a purpose, but instead was shoehorned into the dreaded Atlantis SquarePantis where neither he nor Sandy had any right to be in.

Don't let your friends get replaced by a sandwich, please... just don't let them!

Now, The Recap And Reasons Why We Do Not Love This Episode:[]

  1. First of all, the idea of SpongeBob falling in love with a Krabby Patty is total nonsense.
    • This can also count as objectophilia, although we do know that SpongeBob loves Krabby Patties, but it just took too far.
  2. SpongeBob also stole a customer's Krabby Patty to keep it, but in reality, he can just make another!
  3. There was even a scene where SpongeBob kills a ton of scallops, for simply trying to eat the Krabby Patty, which can be disturbing in a KIDS CARTOON.
    • This even started a theory where SpongeBob killed Junior, A CLAM THAT HE CARED FOR IN ROCK-A-BYE BIVALVE.
  4. There are many disturbing and gross imagery, such as close-up shots of the expired Patty, Squidward literally squeezing and showing SpongeBob the patty that it is, as well the ending where SpongeBob ate Patty despite it being rotten.
  5. If Reason 3 wasn't enough, there was going to be another bad scene where SpongeBob is in the bed with Patty, in his underwear. Implying that with Patty, he had... um... I think I prefer not to talk about that...
    • Luckily, the scene was cut for being too inappropriate.
  6. "I Can't Keep My Eyes Off of You", is really offkey.
  7. SpongeBob literally abandoned his friends for Patty.

Reception[]

People say this is one of the worst episodes of the series along with episodes like A Pal for Gary, What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?, One Coarse Meal, Ink Lemonade, The Splinter, Fungus Among Us, Good Neighbors, and Stuck in the Wringer mostly because this episode is gross out.

And to make things worse this episode is paired with the super-infamous episode Breath of Fresh Squidward. Both episodes have infamous scenes!

How to flip this episode into a medium rare[]

  • If you're going to make a love story involving a Krabby Patty, let SpongeBob's love give it life, where only then will we have a good love story for ourselves.
  • Why not have SpongeBob keep the patty in a bag or something to seal it from the air to prevent it from getting rotten.
  • Replace the scallop scene with Plankton trying to steal Patty while riding a machine but then SpongeBob does his karate on the machine.

Redeeming Qualities That You Should Fall In Love With[]

  1. The very beginning where SpongeBob makes the Krabby Patties is enjoyable.
  2. There are some quotes in this episode are kind of funny (depends on your view):

"I've been replaced... BY A SANDWICH!"

"Hey! How'd they know? I LOVE grilled shoe!"

  1. It is not really clear that SpongeBob really killed the clams as the show has a really extreme comedic standards which makes 99% of the characters capable to survive such things, thus making it a mere speculation of some of the audience
  2. At least SpongeBob learned his lesson about objectophilla. Unlike some other shows that dealt with this, such as the MOAR infamous Teen Titans Go’s episode “The Scoop”, and to an extent, Ren and Stimpy’s Games Animation episode “I Love Chicken.”
    1. A We Bare Bears Episode “Burrito” did this concept SO much better than all of these episodes.
    2. While is a semi-infamous episode, SpongeBob’s season 13 episode My Friend Patty is a slight improvement over this episode.
  3. The ending where SpongeBob eats the moldy Krabby Patty could be considered karma for replacing his friends with it.
  4. According to RQ #4, (the second two), it has not just one good moral, but two.
    1. Food is meant to be eaten.
    2. Objectophilia is literally stupid, and you should NEVER do it. (We are also talking to you, Teen Titans Go.)

Trivia[]

  • Some fans claimed that this episode is where the show really hits its low point, especially when late series' creator Stephen Hillenburg have stated that one of the main traits of SpongeBob as a character is someone who isn't suppose show any signs of romantic feelings for anyone or anything due to his childlike nature, as he is essentially asexual, yet this episode does a complete 180 on that characterization and makes him fall in love with a sandwich. Keep in mind, this is only an opinion, not a fact.
  • According to Kenny Pittenger's blog, the artist for Patty's close-ups, remarked that he was satisfied while creating them.[1]
  • The song in this episode, I Can't Take My Eyes Off You, was released as DLC for Rock Band 2.
  • This is the first HYPER-infamous episode and also the only one in Season 5
