Tentacle-Vision is a mid infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, Squidward gets his own TV show.
Why This Should Be Taken Off TV Forever[]
- Much like a lot of episodes from the very previous season, it's another typical 11-minute Squidward torture episode where Squidward doesn't do anything wrong to deserve a bunch of torments.
- Everyone (except for Gary and Squidward) is depicted in this episode as inconsiderate, idiotic, and selfish, as they all ruin Squidward's show for their desires when they weren't invited by Squidward himself in the first place. They don't even show consideration or realize that Squidward is doing a show and doesn't want their interference.
- The intended humor of the episode was meant to poke fun at how people react when they realize they’re on television, which is a weak idea for an episode premise; it’s so boring that you’ll more likely focus on the people of Bikini Bottom annoying Squidward.
- This can be considered a rip-off of "Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy VI: The Motion Picture" because both these two episodes have SpongeBob and Patrick be the producers, especially Patrick is a camera man this time again.
- There's a scene where Patrick puts his mouth in front of the camera, and then it randomly jumps to a gross-out close-up of the inside of a live-action mouth. (Even though this scene was funny to most of the people.)
- To add insult to injury, Plankton firing lasers around Squidward's house was enough to ruin the show and make Squidward cry about his failure to run his show, followed by Larry automatically thinking that Squidward is holding a housewarming party and promptly bringing himself in alongside other people, including the producer of Squidward's show, in his house, both of which only exist to show how much the writers really hate Squidward, even when he has done nothing wrong.
- This pretty much is a coup d'état on Squidward since the producer just overthrows him from his own house like he was his landlord or something.
- Bad ending: A random guy from Big Ugly, WV (that's not where he is from, the writer is being ironic) kicks Squidward out of his OWN house spitefully and renames the show "Squidward's House Party," WITHOUT SQUIDWARD HIMSELF! THE MAIN CHARACTER IS JUST AN ACNE-FILLED TEEN FANBOY WHO LIKES GUITARS, AND NOBODY EVEN KNOWS HIM! SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Pearl, Plankton, Mr. Krabs, and Larry are all shown having a good time, but they didn't even care that they ruin Squidward's chance of having his own TV show, and then the episode just ends with Squidward trying to sleep while the downstairs was noisy.
- On top of those animation mistakes in this episode, they even did that in this scene as well! How the heck was Squidward able to get into his bedroom after he got kicked out? Is this just trying to show us that the people who worked on this episode didn't care about these details?
- The episode does not do much with its main concept as it doesn't use clever jokes about television or try to teach the viewers morals or anything about television, making this wasted potential and only serves as a Squidward torture episode.
- Also, it teaches a VERY bad moral to some people (mostly kids and teenagers): To disturb the journalists when they were in the houses or backyards to ruin their broadcasting when they were reported night.
Overall, this wasn't a very good way to start Season 7. Come to think of it, Season 7 has only gotten worse from there.
Redeeming Qualities[]
- Everyone annoying Squidward could be funny to some people.
- The scene where Gary watches Squidward on TV with SpongeBob standing still with a basket of laundry became a popular internet meme under the name Laundry Stops. It also spawned the Squidward fun fact meme.
- The old lady saying this is disgusting after Patrick has his mouth open at the camera was funny.
- Zeus the Guitar Lord was named after Zeus Cervas, one of the crew members who work on the show.
- The scene with Patrick moving the camera up and down while saying "Upsy-Daisy, Downsy-Wownsy, Upsy-Daisy, Downsy-Wownsy!", is still hilarious and funny.
Trivia[]
- This is one of the many infamous episodes premiered during The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash.
- Despite the negative reception, PhantomStrider likes this episode and ranks it as the 4th best Squidward episode, stating that it reminded him of the "Looney Toons" episode, "Duck Amuck."
