Season 5 is a semi-infamous season of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Why This is Not a Five Star Season[]
- This season is more mixed in its reception than Season 4.
- This was the season that changed the "formula" of the show, and the change is considered very jarring.
- Some characters are more flanderized than they were in the prior season:
- SpongeBob acts like a selfish jerk in several episodes, even to his own best friend, Patrick.
- Patrick's idiocy gets to a point that it can be incredibly annoying.
- Mr. Krabs is tortured in some episodes, despite him usually not doing anything wrong.
Five Star Qualities[]
- This season features some extremely famous episodes, such as Friend or Foe, Spy Buddies, Krabs à la Mode, Roller Cowards and The Two Faces of Squidward.
- Most of the main characters are still likeable for the most part.
- Karen is officially promoted to main character status in this season, which is really nice, as she was essentially a background prop in Seasons 1-4.
- Squidward torture has been toned down compared to the prior season. (Excluding Breath of Fresh Squidward)
