Restraining SpongeBob is an ULTRA-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, after having enough of SpongeBob's careless antics, a fed-up Squidward puts a restraining order on him.
Why It Should Get a Restraining Order[]
- This is another 11 minute torture episode.
- For this case it takes the pin cushion on both SpongeBob & Squidward. Mainly Squidward is of course the scapegoat in this episode. On that note, How SpongeBob is treated in this episode is not any better. He gets a restraining order from Squidward all because of an accident at work from yesterday, even though he (SpongeBob) does very little to almost nothing to deserve any of this guilt-trippy treatment.
- The idea of SpongeBob being given a restraining order isn't a good episode idea, to begin with. Even if SpongeBob can be annoying at times, there was no apparent reason why he would be given a restraining order.
- This episode is very boring, as the 1st part is just SpongeBob annoying Squidward, & later on Patrick just annoys Squidward as well for no reason. No wonder why the series is going bad.
- SpongeBob's desperate attempts to give the order to Squidward causes him to use Patrick to get to Squidward, which is not a bad idea, but it begs the question: Why couldn't he just use someone else, like Sandy?
- The scene where Squidward has a mental breakdown at work is somewhat disturbing & unsettling.
- Patrick is a barely-functional baby in this episode, annoying the sea shanties out of Squidward every time, including the audience watching. Though it becomes a bit tolerable if you sign on to the theory that SpongeBob told Patrick to act as obnoxious as possible to make him drop the restraining order against him, & Patrick was willing to take one for the team.
- He even mistakes Squidward with an allergic reaction to pie for a monster & attacks him.
- When he assaults Squidward, it almost looks like Patrick's violating him.
- His antics here are much more destructive as well.
- To add salt on the injury and knowing Season 6, Patrick does all this on purpose.
- Mr. Krabs is also unlikable. He blames SpongeBob for "setting Squidward over the edge" because Squidward broke the ice machine buttfirst, & he even ignores SpongeBob's pleas to help him while Squidward, lazing around, is protected by a restraining order.
- Mr. Krabs became even more unlikable when he just lets Patrick cause his antics on Squidward & never even bothered to stop him nor even punish him for his actions, proving how much more of an irresponsible boss he is.
- He's also very hypocritical when he doesn't scold Patrick for his actions despite the fact that he unfairly scolded SpongeBob earlier.
- Bad ending: After Squidward writes Patrick's name on the restraining order, his response is to laugh loud like a maniac, which is very senseless. The episode cuts off immediately afterward.
- Why not just have Squidward get a 2nd restraining order? Beats me!
Redeeming Qualities[]
- SpongeBob doesn't seem to be doing anything wrong to Squidward on purpose in this episode.
- The voice actors of Mr. Krabs, Squidward, & Patrick did a decent job voicing Hairy, Combover, & Bald respectively.
- Squidward releases SpongeBob from the order and puts Patrick on it instead, it is satisfying considering Patrick was even worse to Squidward than SpongeBob in this episode.
- Squidward falling into the deep fryer, turning him into a giant crispy nugget that a customer unknowingly bites into, can be considered funny.
- Good concept for the series' decline, but executed very poorly. Ouch.
- Squidward says 2 of the funniest lines from the same episode:
- He says "Patrick! Patrick! Patrick! Patrick!" over & over, & that is pretty funny.
- Squidward also says "How long do you want to live?" to the customer. Yet, another funny line.
- (Depending on your view) The scenes where Patrick annoys Squidward are very funny.
- The idea might've sounded good on paper.
Reception[]
- PIEGUYRULZ called this one a ScumBob episode, but like "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" & "Big Sister Sam," he thought this was relatively close to meh as well.
- Mr. Enter ranked this number 8 on his Squidward Torture Episode list mostly over Patrick's behavior.
- The episode has a 6/10 rating on IMDB.
