Pet Sitter Pat is a low SCUMBOB!-infamous episode from SpongeBob SquarePants.

Synopsis[]

When SpongeBob gets an invitation to his grandma's birthday party, he asks Patrick to pet-sit Gary. However, SpongeBob gets worried about Patrick's misguided attempts at pet-sitting. Also Patrick is mean in this episode for no reason.

Why No One Would Like To Sit This Pet[]

  1. The episode lazily takes elements from both A Pal for Gary from the seventh season and I Was a Teenage Gary from the first season.
    1. This is made even lazier because "A Pal for Gary" was a season ago.
    2. To a lesser extent, it rips off "Gary Takes a Bath".
  2. It is also nothing more than another torture episode for Gary.
  3. Patrick is at his absolute worst in this episode (alongside Stuck in the Wringer), as his flanderization has gone too far, evident when:
    • He drops Gary on the ground, causing him to splat.
    • He ignores SpongeBob's instructions whilst he is away at his grandma's birthday party.
    • The most infamous example is the part where Patrick shows Gary a flamethrower that spews out actual fire (yes, he intends to trick Gary into getting into the bath, but it's still cruel and idiotic to use a freaking flamethrower out of all things).
      • It should be worth noting that while in previous seasons, Patrick did have moments like this, but those were never this extreme!
    • He forgets to feed Gary his food causing Gary to starve, and eats said food in front of Gary.
    • He then pours snail food into the tub because "he had to get the water to stay in there somehow".
    • He sprays Gary water with a FIRE HOSE, and while that's happening Gary is moaning.
      • There's a random moment after Patrick gave Gary "a bath" a can falls on Gary's stomach as if poor Gary wasn't tortured enough.
    • He initially intended to dry Gary off with salt, something that actually kills snails upon contact. When that plan fails, Patrick painfully dries Gary with a hairdryer, causing the latter to shrivel up.
      • The episode tries to portray all of this as funny. But tormenting someone in the ways Patrick does to Gary isn't funny at all, in any way, shape, or form.
  4. It is also predictable, as it is easy to tell that Patrick is going to screw up due to his exaggerated stupidity. Even the humor is predictable, notably when Patrick opens Gary's snail food and you can easily tell that he is going to eat all of it, and it falls flat as a result.
  5. Gary smelling Patrick's armpit is just weird and gross.
  6. The close up of The Dried Gary can be creepy to some, especially children watching the episode.
  7. Plot Hole: How does the flamethrower work when Patrick mentions that he’s underwater in season 2 (Life of Crime)?
  8. Gary being tortured so much and Patrick almost killing him is just so sad to see which can make you feel bad for him.
  9. Despite having been treated horribly by Patrick throughout the episode (at least from his perspective), Gary makes up with him for some reason and is even shown reading him a bedtime story when he’s asleep. It was a quite contrived and mediocre way of trying to pretend this all didn't happen just to end the episode.
    • Gary was also shown laughing after water fell on him while SpongeBob's house was flooding. This contradicts the fact that Gary hates taking bath (as shown in Gary Takes a Bath).
  10. Much like "Rule of Dumb" and "Yours, Mine and Mine" previously, Patrick gets off scot-free and faces no consequences for his actions against Gary.
  11. Mediocre Ending: At the end of the episode, once SpongeBob returns to his pineapple, he doesn't seem to question the fact that the house looks like it had flooded earlier and that around half of it is in ruins.
  12. Bath Time, an episode from the Patrick Star 'Sitcom' Show on the SpongeBob SquarePants Official Channel based on this episode is even worse, as it adds laugh tracks too! How in the world are we supposed to find it funny? HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO FIND THIS FUNNY? This is especially insulting when they used it when Patrick used the flamethrower.
  13. In "Rule of Dumb", we learn that Patrick and Gary are cousins, meaning that Patrick almost killed his cousin, which makes this episode worse.
  14. This is like "Have You Seen This Snail?", but if it was gone wrong.

How to fix the episode[]

  • Make Patrick not read the list backwards
  • Different plot:
    • Rename it to Pet Sitter Cheeks and have Sandy take care of Gary. Gary would be a troublesome pet around her and have gags of her trying to take care of him.
    • Or remove Patrick's abuse towards Gary and replace them with Patrick not knowing how to take care of Gary. which could have some comedic potential by having him try to figure things out on his own way.
  • Have Patrick realise his wrongdoings
  • Patrick getting his comeuppance (where Spongebob come into the house early would do the same things to Patrick)

Redeeming Qualities[]

  1. It at least shows SpongeBob caring for the safety of Gary, unlike in A Pal for Gary.
  2. Some hilarious attempts at humor, notably SpongeBob's grandma struggling to blow out her birthday candles.
  3. To add to number 2, a funny joke involving SpongeBob’s grandma’s candles were if she were any older, the house would be in danger of burning down.
    • But that just triggers a life-threatening thought that Patrick burnt SpongeBob's house with the flamethrower he used earlier.
  4. The scene where Gary stares and attacks Patrick after the snail food sinks in the tub was satisfying.
  5. Patrick throwing the phone out of the window as he says "I GET IT!" repeatedly, only to get painfully hit in the back of his head.
  6. Gary, SpongeBob and his Gramma are still likeable characters nonetheless.
  7. The first and last few minutes of the episode were decent. Sadly, most of the episode is what brings it down.
  8. Depending on you're view, it can be a little entertaining and funny.
  9. It's not that boring to say the least.
  10. “Snail Tails” I thought it was called: Meow, Meow, Meow”.
  11. Depending on your view the ending isn’t that bad because of the speculation/theory that Patrick may have felt remorse for neglecting and abusing Gary (albeit offscreen).

Reception[]

  • Rated 4.9/10 on IMDB.
  • Mr. Enter has considered this the worst SpongeBob episode.
    • Adding to this, he originally reprimanded some of the writers severely and way too harshly which was not well received with the viewers as it led to his fans infamously attacking one of the writers Casey Alexander on Twitter after Mr. Enter showed his Twitter account in his review.
    • He also considers Patrick his most hated character, along with Brian Griffin.'
