Ink Lemonade is a TRIPLE SCUMBOB!-Infamous episode from SpongeBob SquarePants Season 11. In this episode, to meet the demand for his black lemonade stand, Patrick scares the ink out of Squidward. It is considered the worst episode of modern SpongeBob.
AIR DATE FOR THIS EPISODE: MAY 9, 2018
Why It StINKs[]
This episode is ultimately considered to be one of the worst episodes of season 11, then Squirrel Jelly due to the following reasons:
- While Squidward should get comeuppance for being mean to Patrick at the beginning, this went way too far.
- Some scenes being gross, disturbing, and really creepy and scary, along with the main problem of the episode: Patrick being exactly like Mr. Krabs in this episode.
- Unlike what the description had says, there is nothing successful about Patrick's lemonade stand, as Patrick keeps torturing Squidward and the latter is losing his ink in this episode.
- The constant screaming.
- The disgusting visuals of ink spraying from Squidward's nose.
People called this episode ScumBob, because ultimately, this episode had too many scary and gross out scenes, Squidward gets tortured many, many, many times, shooting his ink everywhere whenever he starts screaming.
In the episode, which made it less appealing, mostly Squidward is screaming in this episode because he gets tortured many, many, many times, and he is losing ink in this episode, or the characters are yelling at megaphones to explain something or what they want to say in this episode. SpongeBob is also very ignorant in this episode. And it rips off Patty Hype and Sandy's Nutmare.
The episode also sucks because of the constant screaming. The beginning literally features Patrick screaming lemonade, and it's even worse when SpongeBob and a lady drink the titular Ink Lemonade, as they scream it too.
This episode received negative reputation from some fans, as people think that this episode was a reject script during the series' dark age. However, it is not as infamous as the worst episodes from the era due to being written by Kaz (who was a writer of the 3rd season. Fans also think that he himself regretted writing for this episode), and to some of the creativity with the haunted house that Patrick made, and some moments being funny and hilarious.
The scene where Patrick removes the bandage from his wound is nothing less than disgusting.
Even Roger Bumpass, Squidward's voice actor, stated he hated this episode.[citation needed]
Vincent Waller, however, does like the episode and considers it a classic.[1] which is ironic because many people hate this episode.
Redeeming Qualities[]
- The idea is decently creative, but sadly executed poorly.
- Squidward was bad to Patrick at the beginning so he at least deserved some comeuppance for it, the problem is he didn't deserve to spend an entire episode suffering this much.
- Ironically enough, even with Patrick scaring the daylights out of Squidward for no good reason, funny moments can be found in the episode like the "I'm a haunted... tablecloth!" scene.
- This episode is logical that of course, octopuses do ink, just like in real life.
- Aside from the disturbing imagery throughout, the animation is nicely done as with the SpongeBob seasons, considering Bob Jaques (Animation Director for The Ren & Stimpy Show) was animation director in this episode.
- The voice acting is still amazing.
- Squidward does think it's a good idea to sell his ink at the end of the episode so we could deduct that Squidward's pain wasn't that terrible because he thought it was worth it to get some money.
- Patrick gets his comeuppance at the end of the episode. Squidward sprays ink on everyone, and they leave, causing Patrick to shut the lemonade stand down.
- It is possible SpongeBob was unaware of what Patrick was doing, and possibly would have confronted Patrick over his actions if he discovered it.
- The lemonade pitcher that actually has water in it joke at the beginning is kinda funny.
- We get to hear what Squidward's record sound like!
- Many people found the haunted house a creative way to scare Squidward.
Reception[]
Although not many, some fans say this is the creepiest and worst episode in Season 11 as well as the post-sequel era as a whole, including A.S.K. Air, who said it is the worst episode post season 10, it has a rating of 5/10 on IMDb for a few years (it's on 4.7/10 now), mostly because of its famous pair My Leg!
Bea Reviews ranked it #49 just above “The Grill is Gone”.
However, along with Fungus Among Us and Mall Girl Pearl, it was one of the three episodes Intrancity rated Epic, which is the highest rank an episode can get, though he thinks out of these 3 episodes, it's the worst (or least good).
Trivia[]
- Ironically, this episode is paired up with the extremely LEGENDARY-famous episode, “My Leg!”, which is even more ironic because it's the complete opposite of this one.
- Shockingly, this is one of Intrancity's favorite episodes because he found it to be gut-bustingly hilarious from start to finish. [2]
- This is Brendaniel's and Carrot531's least favorite SpongeBob episode ever to exist.
- After this episode and The Nitwitting, there currently haven't been any episode above HYPER-infamous. Possibly, this episode was thankfully the last one.
- Despite being the worst, Mr. Enter does not think it is as bad as people say it is, only calling it mildly bad.
