Hide and Then What Happens? is a super-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick's game of hide and seek goes downhill when SpongeBob can't find Patrick anywhere.
Air Date for this Episode: 18 September 2010[]
Why We Just Can't Find The Quality Here[]
- This episode's plot is very, very bare. Mostly is just SpongeBob looking for Patrick when they're playing hide and seek.
- The beginning where SpongeBob tries to explain how to play hide and seek to Patrick really drags on so long, and it's really not funny.
- Bad attempts at humor:
- Even though SpongeBob has explained how to play hide and seek to him, Patrick still doesn't remember what it is, and he asks it again, again, and again, which implies that he's FORGETFUL in this episode.
- The ending where SpongeBob says Patrick was under his rock the whole time, Patrick responds "Under where?" Is that supposed to be a R-rated joke or not?
- You the audience might have already known the fact that Patrick is supposed to be a stupid character, but here, as mentioned above, he becomes very, very forgetful. Here's the thing, stupidity and forgetfulness are two completely different traits. IQ and memory are not even the same things. Other than that, it's really annoying and irritating when Patrick keeps on forgetting what hide and seek is even though SpongeBob has already taught him before asking it.
- Not only that, Patrick can't even remember SpongeBob's name in the very first 7 seconds of the episode. Did some people hit Patrick's head a thousand times so he would've been this "stupid"?
- Making the whole episode completely pointless, there's one scene that reveals Patrick hides under his rock the whole time, so you can just skip the rest of the episode after this scene.
- There's two scenes which are very annoying and unfunny:
- SpongeBob yells Squidward's name and runs up to him, indirectly causing Squidward's key snapped on the door.
- SpongeBob asks "Are you sure?" to Mrs. Puff over and over again if she wants to play hide and seek with him while SpongeBob makes an obnoxious expression. This scene rips off the doorbell gag in Pet or Pests as well.
- The episode tries to do a fake-out showing that that isn’t Patrick at the café (because they revealed that Patrick was in his house the whole time) and someone who looks like Patrick and even his name "Patrick Not-Star" is uncreative.
- In fact, Patrick Not-Star's design is creepy.
- Out of nowhere moral that has nothing to do with the episode’s plot (which is non-existent) about that it’s okay to lose a game as long as you had fun playing. It's not necessarily a bad moral; it's actually a good moral, but it wasn't even the right moral for the episode.
Redeeming Qualities[]
- There are some funny moments here and there such as:
- "Welcome to the end of the world... cafe and gift shop."
- Patrick Not-Star scene
- The scene where SpongeBob takes Sandy's submarine to search for Patrick was engaging, mostly due to the song that played during it.
- Good Moral: As stated in WWJCFTQH #8, it's okay to lose a game as long as you had fun playing.
Trivia[]
- This episode was paired with "You Don't Know Sponge" on the same day that both episodes aired.
- It spawned the "Patrick Not-Star" meme.
