Gone is a super-infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob wakes up to find everyone, and we mean EVERYONE, in Bikini Bottom has mysteriously disappeared.
Why This Episode Should Be Gone (We Are Being Serious)[]
- This is a very cruel SpongeBob torture episode as he is treated as the victim, as if the writers of this episode actually hated SpongeBob.
- All of the characters (that is, except for SpongeBob) are unlikable and mean-spirited in this episode as they abandoned SpongeBob and going as far to burn a statue of him, meaning they want to kill him and they hold a grudge of all things, everyone treated him as he never existed before or they just didn’t care about him and they thought it was OK to abandon SpongeBob. They were selfish as well as they don’t bring SpongeBob on the trip just because he has flaws.
- While it’s understandable for Squidward and Mrs. Puff to abandon SpongeBob because of how much they despise him, it’s very cruel of other characters to treat him like this, Patrick who is literally his best friend. Sandy who is also one of is best friends, Gary his loyal, loving pet and Mr. Krabs who likes him a lot as he is his best employee and often treats him as his son and the reasoning on why they left him is because he’s annoying and basically saying that everyone deserves a break from him but in reality he’s a nice person.
- Speaking of which, this episode is an early sign of Patrick's flanderization.
- Even if one can understand this high douche level move of all of the Bikini Bottomites for driving SpongeBob to (as Far Cry 3's Vaas said) the definition of insanity via pointing out how seasons 6b & 7 have the title character being an annoying idiot, what they did to the sponge is beyond cruel. As said above some of the nicer characters like Sandy ditch him because he’s annoying, despite SpongeBob not doing anything harmful to her.
- It's also possible that SpongeBob's own family also went with the Bikini Bottomites which would also make the episode even MORE cruel to SpongeBob.
- The moral is cruel to kids because it’s basically teaching kids how it’s ok to abandon someone because of their flaws.
- No one besides Patrick gets a comeuppance for abandoning SpongeBob, they don’t learn their lesson and just get off scot-free.
- Aside from being mean spirited, the writing, just like most of the Seasons 6 to 8 episodes, is extremely lazy as well as being a huge snore with plot shifts due to SpongeBob being the only person as if the writers didn’t even try to put creative effort into the writing, an example of this is where SpongeBob pretend to be everyone in Bikini Bottom, right before the plot switched to him stealing a boat from boating school to be his only best friend only for him to find out that Boaty is evil after 'being told' by the Patrick dummy made out of Krabby Patties in the closet that Boaty has it out for him.
- Encyclopedia SpongeBobia references this episode every March 2nd thanks to the Twitter post of the ending, which is a major facepalm for them to do.
Redeeming Qualities[]
- The title card looks nice.
- SpongeBob is the only likable character in this episode.
- Patrick was pretty much the only one who got what he deserved as he got abandoned.
- The ending is good because SpongeBob gave Patrick a taste of his own medicine by abandoning him.
How to fix this episode[]
- Have SpongeBob give everyone that abandoned him a taste of their own medicine. or have him snap angrily at everyone.
- Have the ending reveal that this was a game of hide-and-seek, or the planned a surprise party for him, or you can even make the episode's events a nightmare, and everyone did not leave at all.
- Make the title card have no music, it may look bland, but it's at least fitting.
- Have SpongeBob hire stunt doubles of his friends and have those dogs bite back.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, this episode is paired up with the LEGENDARY-famous episode "Not Normal."
