Gary's New Toy is an infamous episode[1] of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob must take drastic measures when Gary becomes obsessed with his new red ball.

Why This Toy Should Pop[]

People call it ScumBob because Gary is at his absolute worst in this episode. It was Gary's fault that he bites everything (which is very continuous), treats his ball like an actual someone, and then betrays SpongeBob over a stupid ball as well as being careless about SpongeBob leaving at first. He even idiotically got the house on fire. It is very similar to Treats! because both involve Gary having a creepy obsession. It is also very boring and dull. However, it is a decent example of how you can act when having a drug obsession. This can be considered a jarring or a good thing and SpongeBob’s House catches on fire. and it rips off Dumped and To Love a Patty. And the episode's ending was creepy even to children.

And let's not forget Gary biting SpongeBob! This may be justifiable for Gary since SpongeBob mistreated Gary in A Pal for Gary and The Great Snail Race, But that doesn't excuse for Gary to literally don't care about SpongeBob altogether and when SpongeBob leaves him, literally he packed suitcases with him too.

Redeeming Qualities That Should Not Pop[]

SpongeBob is likeable in this episode, as he did try to help Gary come over his obsession. Despite how unlikeable Gary is in this episode, seeing Gary cry is extremely satisfying as he realized the errors of his ways and stands up to his ball even though it goes out of hand when Gary mistakenly got the house on fire when he tried to shred it with a blender. He also found Spongebob which he is satisfied with Spongebob more than the ball though the ending ruined it with Gary hissing at the ball.

Trivia[]

  • As said above, since A Pal for Gary and The Great Snail Race is hated because of how SpongeBob mistreated Gary, in this episode, Gary may have gotten back at him by choosing the ball over him, but it still may be cruel nonetheless.
