Funny Pants is a low infamous episode[1] of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, Squidward grows tired of SpongeBob laughing, so he lies to him into thinking that he lost his laugh
Why It Isn't Funny[]
- The idea of SpongeBob laughing throughout the episode is somewhat contradictory, given the fact that SpongeBob only laughs once or twice in an episode to make it less annoying, it's also unnecessary.
- SpongeBob gets unfairly tortured for no reason in this episode because Squidward came up with a nasty joke that makes him so sad.
- There could've been funnier things for SpongeBob to avoid instead of banana peels, pies, and whoopee cushions.
- Later in the episode SpongeBob starts crying, which is so depressing, at least it's the least of the episode's problems.
- In the end, Squidward ends up breaking his laugh box, and then he gets SpongeBob's. That's his comeuppance, even for the laughing box thing he made up earlier.
- There could've been better comeuppances for Squidward than something he just made up so he can get SpongeBob to stop laughing.
Redeeming Qualities[]
- The laughing and crying parts are only for a part of the episode.
- Squidward's laugh box prank does work on SpongeBob, even though he didn't deserve it.
- Despite the generic "funny jokes", the episode decently exaggerates them.
- Depending on your view, SpongeBob laugh can be funny
- The banana peel scene is pretty hilarious.
- At least SpongeBob only laughs for a part of the episode, unlike what happened here.
Reception[]
- Originally, MoBrosStudios ranked this as number 15 on his worst episodes list, but later took it off as Anim8ball reviewed his original list.
- This episode was originally going to be named "Unfunny Pants," but was later changed to "Laughbox", then the current one.
- This episode would later get a worse sequel titled Don't Make Me Laugh.
