Face Freeze! is a high HYPER-infamous episode[1] of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick catch an incurable disease after making too many silly faces.

Why It's NOT a Frozen Face-Off (aka. Why This ScumBob Should Get A Face Freeze)[]

  1. As implied above, this episode's title is a rip-off of frozen face-off (a better episode than this abomination), so much that it might get confused with that episode. What makes this even worse is that frozen face-off was also in Season 8.
  2. This episode logically makes no sense. Making funny faces won't get your face stuck permanently no matter how hard you try. Your muscles will get worn out and go back to normal, I think. Also...
  3. Clichéd Plot:
    1. The episode is also a ripoff of the Jay Jay the Jet Plane episode, “I Love Your Funny Face” as they both have the premise of characters making funny faces, despite being warned and suffer the consequences.
      1. However, Jay Jay had a more logical plot, the stuck face is from the planes emoting after they’ve been freshly waxed instead of waiting for the wax to dry.
    2. There are similarities to the Simpsons short "Making Faces" from The Tracey Ullman Show.
    3. The episode is, in fact, an utter rehash of Season 1's "Hooky";
  4. The faces that SpongeBob and Patrick make throughout the episode are stupid, disturbing, disgusting, unfunny, and immature. Their faces were so bad that many Bikini Bottomites stayed away from them.
    • The face SpongeBob gets stuck in is identical to the first stage of his snail transformation in Season 1's "I Was a Teenage Gary" (big shock, that is another disturbing episode).
  5. Sandy later shows up and offers to fix their faces, only for them to turn out wrong. It would've been better if they were fixed in a hospital.
  6. When SpongeBob brings someone's order he drooled on a tray, he ruins three patties because of his severely disfigured face, which is outright disgusting.
  7. Also this episode, while being somewhat okay watch depending on your humor, is downright impossible to rewatch because of the disgusting visuals and it's basically nonexistent plot (a critique noted by the legendary PIEGUYRULZ, who speaking of which ranked this episode SCUMBOB)
  8. Horrible and STUPID ending: When Mr. Krabs confronts SpongeBob and Patrick for disobeying his orders of not making any more silly faces earlier in the episode, he became so angry that his face quickly became severely frozen and disfigured. Squidward then shows up and laughs at their faces hard, causing his face to also get severely frozen and disfigured. SpongeBob, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs then start laughing at Squidward to return the favor and Squidward starts crying and yelling at them to stop laughing, as the episode ends with all three of them laughing at Squidward while remaining in their severely disfigured frozen faces.
    • It also makes no sense because Mr. Krabs and Squidward made only one face each before their faces instantly got stuck, even though SpongeBob and Patrick made way more than one face.
    • This whole ending also makes it look like it's a very happy and funny ending, but it's a disturbing and very unfair ending on Mr. Krabs' and especially Squidward's part, with the latter because it's the episode's way of punishing them even though did they did absolutely nothing wrong.
  9. This episode contains possibly the worst humor to have ever come out of the show.
  10. Ironically, for an episode in which the entire plot is faces, this episode's plot is NOTHING, as funny faces DO NOT MAKE FOR AN ACTUAL PLOT.
  11. Speaking of faces, this episode has EVEN MORE DISGUSTING SCENES ASIDE FROM SAID FACES AND THE SPIT PATTY SCENE (I.E Sandy's mammalian hands)
  12. This episode contains filler, AND LOADS OF IT AT THAT. For example, the montage of SpongeBob and Patrick terrorizing the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom with their faces lasts AN ENTIRE MINUTE. Additionally, this episode is considered to have the most filler in the entire series, alongside Choir Boys, SpongeBob You're Fired, Atlantis SquarePantis and Truth Or Square (Although it is important to add that 3 out of 4 of said episodes are specials, thus having a longer amount of runtime and naturally leading to more filler. And while not entirely excusing the sheer amount of nothingness in them, it still isn't exactly the best look on this episode's behalf).
  13. A bit of Squidward torture sprinkled in, especially in the tent scene and in the aforementioned ending.
  14. SpongeBob may not be at his worst in this episode, but he is still pretty idiotic and flanderized. Especially considering that HE was the one who suggested the idea of maintaining the same ugly face for a prolonged amount of time just to prove Mr. Krabs wrong (additionally, it should be noted that he did it by SCREAMING AT HIS FRIEND WITH A MEGAPHONE ASKING HIM TO LISTEN) and then, the day after, acts surprised after learning that the faces are freezed and won't revert back to normal. WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT!?
  15. For people that don't care about "funny faces" (granted most weird faces shown in this episode are more revolting than funny) the episode in general falls flat especially in the humor department, as most of the jokes are just "hahahaha goofy face funny"
  16. This episode's content makes it feel more like a SpongeBob trollfic than an actual episode.
  17. Bad Moral: If someone tells you a made-up story and you make a funny face in one day, it will make your face stuck permanently and won't revert back to normal.

Redeeming Qualities To Put In The Microwave[]

  1. Mr. Krabs at least teaches SpongeBob and Patrick a valuable lesson.
  2. Despite how hideously horrifying the faces were, you can see that the animators put a lot of effort and imagination into them. In fact, two of the faces, one for Patrick, and the other for SpongeBob look like they are made of cardboard.
  3. Certain lines That some might find funny, such as: "You two need help", "HEY SPONGEBOB HEY SPONGEBOB HEY SPONGEBOB", and "ALRIGHT WE DID IT!!"
  4. You can use this episode to troll someone.
  5. Depending on your view, the faces do look funny.
  6. As mentioned in RQTPITM #5, Some of the faces actually do look funny.

How To Make This Episode Funny[]

  • Make the faces actually funny, dense and wacky not scary, cringy and gross.
  • When Sandy massages Spongebob and Patrick's faces, have her just make it so they aren’t even worse than the faces previously made. Make Mr. Krabs and Squidward not have their face frozen just by making one face.
  • Different Ending:
    • Spongebob and Patrick's faces are back to normal after having Sandy help them out
    • Mr Krabs and Squidward put a picture of their silly faces on a mirror and prank them to make them think their faces are frozen.
    • The latter would explain it's just a prank meanwhile their faces are normal.

Reception[]

  • This episode received unfavourable reviews from fans. On SpongeBuddy Mania, the episode averaged 4.34/10 based on 89 rating. On IMDb, this and its sister episode Glove World R.I.P. averaged 5.2/10 based on 420 (hehe) votes.
  • Mobrosstudios, despite really liking this episode aside from the ending and some other problems, compared this episode's plot to a "Fairy Tale".
  • TheMysteriousMrEnter, in "Animated Atrocities 015", Said that this episode was the second worst of the series ( that he had reviewed, at least) only behind One Coarse Meal, and also calling it worse than The Splinter. Today, even though his opinions had slightly gotten better since then, he still gave it the ONLY dishonorable mention spot in his video about the 10 worst SpongeBob episodes of all time in his opinion.
  • As mentioned before, PIEGUYRULZ ranked this episode SCUMBOB.

Trivia[]

This episode has the same writing team as the SCUMBOB!-Infamous Episode One Coarse Meal.
