Don't Make Me Laugh is a high super-infamous episode[1] of Season 14 of SpongeBob SquarePants, in this episode SpongeBob's constant laughter annoys everyone in Bikini Bottom, including his own audience.
AIR DATE FOR THIS EPISODE: FEBRUARY 12, 2024
Why It's No Laughing Matter[]
- To get the clowns out of the room, this is Funny Pants but cranked up 100x as annoying.
- This mainly refers to the beginning of that episode, but the concept is still there throughout.
- It also rips off SpongeBob's Bad Habit and A Day Without Tears but those episodes are no better than this one.
- This is basically a SpongeBob torture episode, but SpongeBob himself being unlikeable with his constant laughter. That just shows that possibly SpongeBob's flanderization from seasons 6b & 7 has made a comeback, and unlike in Funny Pants, he is completely unaware and does not try to stop his laughter. SpongeBob is but a one-dimensional laughbox (literally) with no ability to feel any other emotion.
- Speaking of SpongeBob torture, the reason it's considered this is because he clearly wanted to stop laughing, but because he couldn't stop, he ended up offending many people.
- SpongeBob's laugh seems very worn out and dry, showing that Tom Kenny wasn't really happy about working on this episode at his age. The worst part is that his laugh samples are REUSED throughout the episode, and sound nowhere close to his laugh in Seasons 1-4. This gets ANNOYING REALLY FAST.
- As SpongeBob laughs too much, his laughter transforms his entire face, blatantly repeating a joke previously seen in the somewhat notorious Face Freeze!, and it looks very disgusting as well.
- Speaking of Face Freeze, IT RIPS OFF THAT DAMN EPISODE TOO!
- Ironically, Zeus Cervas was a storyboard director for both episodes. If we had to pick, Face Freeze was his better episode, but maybe Ian Vazquez forced Zeus to make these visuals this bad.
- It contains FOUR SCUMBOB!-infamous scenes in a row:
- The first sequence of SpongeBob annoying everyone with his laughter scene.
- Another infamous scene where SpongeBob laughs at someone getting injured in the Krusty Krab.
- SpongeBob enters a operating room where the robot goes wild and attacks everyone, and GETS AWAY SCOT FREE.
- The most infamous scene, the worst of them all, at the funeral where SpongeBob disrespects a funeral and says "Holy herring, I'm squatting on a corpse", which is not only offensive but stupid taken out of context since funerals are not a joke and are serious events.
- Worst of all, SpongeBob gets away with all this.
- SpongeBob's UGLY FACES ARE SHOWN WAY TOO MUCH!
- It is an EXTREME audience torture and Bikini Bottomites torture. Hell, even PATRICK is smarter than SpongeBob and that's a HUGE sign that you're done for.
- Grandma SquarePants' return, although decent, comes off as a bad way to send off what could potentially be her final appearance.
Redeeming qualities that made us laugh:[]
- Grandma SquarePants returned with Marion Ross reprising the role.
- There were quite a lot of Easter Eggs in this episode, but some people call them bait just to get the older fans back in the show.
- Mr. Krabs, despite his villainy in most bad episodes, was shown disgusted by SpongeBob's laughing at Lady Upturn who got injured.
How to fix this episode[]
- Less repetitiveness.
- Instead this episode is about SpongeBob's heckling and he would intentionally be at his absolute worst thanks to it
Reception[]
This episode was received overwhelmingly mixed to negative reviews by many fans and critics, due to its extremely torturous content and flanderisation of SpongeBob. It's often called not only the worst of Season 14, but the worst of Post-Threequel along with SquidBird, Plane to Sea, and Squidiot Box. It has a 7.0 out of 10 of 100 reviews on IMDB along with its sister episode, Blood Is Thicker Than Grease, likely because that episode was better received.
