Boat Smarts is an infamous episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. In this episode, Mrs. Puff hosts a documentary about good and bad boaters starring Squidward and SpongeBob.

Why This Episode Isn't Smart

People call this ScumBob because it has Squidward torture. Some people also dislike it because Squidward is punished for doing the right thing, an example is Squidward being unable to exit his boat because he used a seat belt causing him to get crushed by spikes. Some people also hate it because of SpongeBob's infamous line in the ending (namely, he teases Mrs. Puff and Squidward for having "forgotten their boat smarts" even though they have boat smarts and he has none).

Redeeming Qualities

1. Mrs. Puff's "Never mind" is pretty funny.
2. Depending on your view, the idea of an episode being a parody of educational instructional videos can be interesting.
3. Despite the Squidward torture, the episode shows that good drivers can get negatively affected by another driver’s incompetence in driving.
4. Squidward getting crushed in the contraption became a meme.
5. the C.O.B.B.U.T.K.S.B.S.P.O.T.R.A.O.O.B.A.T. : (Citizens of Bikini Bottom United to Keep SpongeBob SquarePants Off the Road and Out of Boats All Together) at the beginning is funny even though it is filler.
