Atlantis SquarePantis is a mid super-infamous episode[1] of SpongeBob SquarePants, In this episode, SpongeBob and his friends go on a trip to Atlantis.
RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 12, 2007
Why Should This Remain Lost, Like Atlantis[]
There's a good reason why the real Atlantis was lost, and this is it.
Nothing much else happens throughout this awful song padded special aside from moving to one place onto another while our writers concurrently come up with music to place in favor. But guess what? None of the Burger King promotions nor Nickelodeon advertisements even hinted at the slightest that this was going to be a musical, no instead they showed the lame climax that looked awesome had it not been for the lies and left out every song used in the following release. The songs are contrived and grating, doing nothing but to waste us, the audience's time. Sandy sings badly, even though So Long Bikini Bottom from Chimps Ahoy proved that she is a good singer and the main arc about the oldest living bubble carried throughout the wars in Atlantis; it's not the medallion itself? That is way further, more important than a bubble that has not popped for centuries!
Speaking of the arcs, this special acts like their love and dreams for various things is their only defining trait to the personas when it comes to being given a tour around Atlantis. Derailment is just a teardrop away from what was once such expanded characters with colorful visuals. The many various art styles and animation movements used here are just there to make up for the lack of creativity that's put into this garbage filled writing, but for those who are artists that love these various references to paintings; who can we blame? Now then, Sandy has no reason to be at the museum, so she can snoop into the others business and especially for the love of Neptune, Plankton is shoehorned into the special; having hidden himself in a compartment at the front of the bus while the others are making our ears bleed, especially Sandy because she can't sing in this episode. Plankton plans to control the weapons of Atlantis and use them for stealing the formula, but if you've seen the first movie, then you know that he's got a lot more planned in mind than that. So how do we explain the musical elements?
The fact that the luxurious bus is fueled by a song rather than the medallion, that is laziness on the architect's part or unless he was forced to use a song to power the bus by his superiors instead... now that's what we call executive meddling. And you're not giving David Bowie the chance to sing, but let the others get one themselves? Dirty pool misters, dirty pool!
LRH is no better himself as he summons his guards to attack all because the oldest living bubble had finally popped, again the medallion of Atlantis should be more important and the main McGuffin of this special; not a dirty century old bubble that's been carried through space and time in their wars. That bubble is nothing to get upset about to begin with.
The laboratory for Sandy's arc is not in line with the rest of the film's, but neither is the plague called questionable plot holes: it is most notably the lame fight scene at the climax as she's all doing the fighting using the others as props and weapons against the guards. It seems like all this special wants to tell us is that Sandy is the only one who is able to fight. Squidward can be understood as he's never fought before, SpongeBob knows karate, Mr. Krabs was a navy fighter and Patrick has been shown to be a good fighter himself. But no! They decide to throw continuity out of the window for the sake of showing us how strong and skilled Sandy is, even though the viewers already know she's an incredibly strong and skilled character.
The fact that the weapons that Shoehorn J. Plankton was trying to use shoot out ice cream is nothing short of what was stated above: laziness and unintelligence. Casey Alexander hated working on this episode.
This episode can't do anything right because David Bowie wasn't given a song to sing with his beautiful voice, and still he can make dancing with puppets no less more interesting than this snore 'n borefest.
The Patchy the pirate segments were not much better. They were very mean spirted. Patchy was getting stuck in traffic and his music was destroyed. Potty did not help patchy she cut patchy off the phone before he could finish. Then he got lost in the desert all thirsty and suffer in the heat and he was crying. Then when potty showed up in the desert he gave him a sandwich with mayo which patchy doesnt like only so he could be attacked by a vulture and lew off leaving him in the desert. At the end some stupid aliens shrunk his town which made him lost in the first place then when he got back he got smashed by potty at the end which is very mean spirted.
You know even though this is the worst for PIEGUYRULZ before Choir Boys came along, this is one of the worst that Season 5 has to offer. Truth or Square was no saint either but all of that's forgiven thanks to SpongeBob's Birthday Blowout.
And this episode got almost 9 MILLION views on its first airing, and out of every episode at the time, this one probably deserved it the absolute least. We really feel bad for those few 8.76 million people who saw this TV movie, because this was most likely the biggest 40 minute and 33 second waste of time they’ve ever experienced.
TheMysteriousMrEnter stated that this episode is a rip off of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Some reasons why this episode shouldn't stay lost[]
- Depending on your view the animation on Sandy's song is good
- At least Carolyn Lawrence tried to sing.
- The Bubble song is good
- Planktons song is alright
- The Patchy segments are alright
- Patchy’s line: “CURSE THIS TRAFFIC!!!”
What can make this episode worthy of being found[]
- Explain why Sandy and Plankton were at the museum
- Less filler
- Have LRH sing
- Less songs
- Have one sole focus instead of everyone going for their own dreams.
- A better action sequence where the whole cast fights instead of Sandy using them as weapons
- Cut it down to a regular 11-minute episode.
Trivia[]
- This episode was originally supposed to be a regular 11-minute episode, but Nickelodeon decided to extend it to a TV movie.
- As mentioned above, this episode often gets confused with the name "Atlantis SquarePants," with the "I" in "SquarePantis" missing.
- Casey Alexander stated that this is his least favorite episode that he worked on. And according to him, the reason why David Bowie didn't sing a song in this episode is because he was cast too late in the process and there's no songs were written for that character
- The TRUE reason why David Bowie didn't sing was because at the time he quit singing so that's why he didn't sing.
